Information about Modern Mirrors
Modern mirrors are far different from those used by our early ancestors but still have the same basic functions ... to provide accurate reflection. Any object that has at least one reflective surface can be called a 'mirror' and, while most often used to help in one's personal care, they have many other uses too.
Some well-known applications in industrial use include telescopes, cameras, projectors, flashlights and lasers. Each car is required to have at least two rearview mirrors and you will also find them on motorbikes and bicycles. They have become important safety devices.
Its use at home is common throughout the world and can usually be found in bathrooms, bedrooms, living rooms and entrances. Placing a mirror in a particular room will 'open' the area by making it appear bigger and adding more light. Placing a candle in front of a mirror in a dark room will almost convex wall mirror double the amount of light (and brightness) in that room. The mirror's reflective ability allows this to occur.
Adding a mirror to your home can make a big aesthetic difference and there are many types and styles to choose from. While many mirrors will have a rectangular shape, other shapes are available or can be made specifically for your specific application. Several different styles include wall mirrors, popular curved mirrors, through doors or overmantle mirrors. There are mirror fields (flat surfaces) and convex and concave models.
The first functional mirror may only be a pool of water or water collected in a bowl or other suitable vessel. Glasses that are seen as 'produced' at the earliest, around 8000 years old, are made of obsidian volcanic rock. Several thousand years later they were usually made of polished metal such as copper and bronze. However, this is not able to provide as accurate a mirror reflection today.
Mirrors range from low or only a few dollars to thousands for complicated decoration units. All are convex mirror intended to provide users with reflection, although not necessarily for personal care. My favorite (in my modest place of residence) is a cheap rattan framed model that sits in my living room right on the pillow of the chair where I usually relax. Nothing fancy but perfectly suited to tropical furniture in the room.
The internet is full of places to buy mirrors. Every size and style that might appear is there. If not, you can always find someone who will make only what is in your mind.
