Free Truck Driving Schools

I have researched various options for people who want to get free or almost free CDL training to become truck drivers. The list continues to grow and I get the impression that I have just scratched the surface in this arena. And as you look at the dynamics of the trucking industry, I hope the opportunities for free truck driving schools will continue to grow for years. Here's my thinking about that.

It only takes a few weeks to learn enough about backing up, driving and shifting the tractor trailer to get your class A CDL license and get out on the road with an experienced trainer by your side. With the help of this trainer for several weeks (preferably around 6), you will have a much better understanding of how to drive, handle your notebook, and schedule your days so that you can function alone out there in your own truck. Now understand something - it takes years to really be a good driver. Anyone can shift and drive in quiet conditions, but my rig which is full of my cargo is almost completely tilted and starts jacknife on a patch of ice that you didn't know was there at around 50 mph. With a few soft and subtle tactics, I was able to regain control in less than 3 seconds and continue as never before. Will someone who has been out of school for two months be able to do that? Only if they are the luckiest people in the world! And we all sometimes need a little (or a lot) of luck! But in about 3 weeks from starting your truck driving school working for a company, out on the road making money. And in 2 months or so, you are alone on your own rig, sliding on the highway!

Now if you are not aware, there is a huge turnover in the trucking industry. In fact, the average is above 100%. Which means companies with 1,000 drivers must hire more than 1000 drivers per year to keep most of their trucks operational. That's how many people stop every year. Very confusing. And the lifestyle of truck drivers is certainly not an easy life to be sure of! So for this, and various dump truck hino other reasons, there is always a big demand for drivers. Trucking companies spend thousands of dollars on every driver they hire. Back in 2004, an orientation manager at a large company told me that they spent an average of $ 3,200 for each driver they hired. That includes recruitment fees, documents, transportation, orientation, worker component initialization, and various other costs. So having to recruit large numbers of people each year is a huge expense, and it gets worse every year!

Now if you put these factors together to get an overall picture of the trucking industry, you will see that this combination makes this industry the right candidate for free schooling. How do I come to that conclusion? Because the new driver can start making lots of money to repay the loan as soon as he finishes the training period and goes out on his own. Schools only need a few weeks, and then training takes a few more weeks. So if trucking companies really need drivers, and they will spend a lot of money to bring experienced drivers and pay them more per mile without any way to really prevent them from going, then why not find a way to spend that money for the drivers that you will pay less per mile and can give them a good reason to stay with the company for a while? Now that's what the company is doing right now.

By offering to cover most, if not all upfront costs of going to school, and requiring new graduates to pay back little or no money for the school itself, they can in turn make drivers work in the company for long periods of time. They only require the driver to stay with the company for a certain period of time. If they do, school fees will be free, or almost free, because most will be paid by the company. In return, the company gets new drivers that produce far less per mile than experienced drivers and a good reason to believe that drivers will stay with the company longer than experienced drivers. After all, for a new driver who stops it will cost thousands of dollars. To last for a year or more will give them a good experience, a good paying job, and basically free tickets to the industry
